Our 2018 awards for art and writing

All into Ocean Pools Inc had three 2018 awards relating to ocean pools:

  • the open-to-all Sheridan Evans Art Award with a total prize-money pool of AU$800 provided by our sponsor, Diverse Productions Pty Ltd. Entries closed on 31 May 2018.

  • the Shirley Ellis Art Award open only to members of All into Ocean Pools Inc. This new award had a total prize-money pool of AU$400 with AU$200 provided by one of our members and $200 by our sponsor, Diverse Productions Pty Ltd. Entries closed on 30 June 2018.

  • the open-to-all Pat Skinner Writing Award with a total prize-money pool of AU$1,000 provided by our sponsor, Diverse Productions Pty Ltd. Entries closed on 31 October 2018.

Results of our 2017 Pat Skinner award for writing about ocean pools

2017 Pat Skinner Award

The late Pat Skinner was a writer and an ocean pool enthusiast who would be very pleased with our judges’ 2017 decisions.

Prize-money

Our judges allocated  prize-money to two writers:
• AU$500 to Lizzie Buckmaster Dove for her reflective essay Archaeology of Sea Pools: A Love Letter, and
• AU$250 to Caroline Josephs for her poem Winter Swimming — Body Oceanic.

The authors of the two entries awarded prize-money have given us permission to publish those entries in the forthcoming issue of Ocean Pool News.

Honourable Mentions

Our judges awarded Honourable Mentions to:
• Tracey Maguire for her poem Changing of the Sisterhood,
• Brydie Piaf for her poem And Swim, and
• Sheridan Hopkins for her prose piece, Pool Fantasies.

Special Commendations

Our judges awarded Special Commendations to:
• Friends of Bude Sea pool for their Bude Sea Pool Handbook 2017, and
• Therese Spruhan for a series of blog posts.
