The Pool includes ocean pools

The Pool is a 2-part documentary which will screen on the ABC on 22 and 29 September at 7.40pm.

The Pool includes an interview with our Chairperson, Marie-Louise McDermott, filmed at Sydney’s Wylies Baths.

Marie-Louise doesn’t know which episode will include her interview about ocean pools, but is sure each part of The Pool will be geat viewing!

Sydney Ocean Pools on ABC News

The ABC’s audience-led project Curious Sydney was recently asked to find out:

  • Who built the ocean pools around Sydney?
  • Why are no new ocean pools being built in present day?

Sue Daniel, digital producer for ABC NSW News, contacted our Chairperson, Marie-Louise McDermott, for help in addressing those questions and invited her to be take part in an ABC Radio Sydney broadcast segment about Sydney’s ocean pools.

Presentation of art prize money to Olga Baldock

On Sunday August 6, Olga Baldock received her $300 prize money cheque and a certificate  recording her success  in the 2017 Sheridan Evans Award for art relating to ocean pools at a cafe near Sydney’s Fairy Bower Ocean Pool.  The cheque from our award sponsor, Diverse Productions Pty Ltd, was presented by All into Ocean Pools Inc Committee Member, Sandra Blamey. Also present for the presentation and brunch were All into Ocean Pools Inc member Sheridan Hopkins and Olga’s husband,  Peter Baldock.

Certificates had already been posted to prize money winners Oliver Scarlin and Brydie Piaf, who received their prize money by bank transfer.

Arrangements are now underway for Graham Gall to receive  his $200 prize money cheque and a certificate  recording his success in the 2017 Sheridan Evans Award for art relating to ocean pools at a presentation in Canberra.

Olga Baldock will soon be presented with a cheque for AU$300 in prize money for entering this work Morning Dip Coogee in our 2017 Sheridan Evans Award for artworks relating to ocean pools. The Australian ocean pool depicted in this image is the Ross Jones Memorial Pool sited on Sydney’s Coogee Beach immediately below the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club.

 In her entry, Olga wrote ‘I love the relationship between the parent and child as the waves crashed into the pool’.
